This is the second entry in my German Food diary series where I share my adventures related to food with the readers of my blog. To see the other entries, make sure to check out the Germany Food tag page.
I’ll admit this may not be as exciting as the other entries in this series but I wanted to compare the Pizza Hut experience in Canada to the one in Germany. A fun pass-time for any traveler is to make comparisons between what one has at home and what he finds while travelling.
The lay out of the restaurant is the same as you would expect to find: tables for 4 or more with a couple of booths in the back. There were a lot of patrons in the restaurant and I didn’t want to tick anyone off by taking their picture.
I started with the Mixed Starter plate, which is always a gamble. On the one hand you get a taste of all the other starters (if you can’t decide on one); on the other if you really like something you only have two pieces to enjoy.
The plate came with two each of: plain chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and chicken sticks (think mozzarella sticks but with chicken inside). In addition there were some potato wedges, two dipping sauces (BBQ and chili in my case) and an attempt at vegetables with the tomato slice and lettuce. Over all the plate was good but nothing too spectacular, your basic fried foods with dipping sauce.
The main course was the Barbecue Lovers pizza with New York crust and bacon, mushrooms, salami and cheese as the toppings.
The crust was soft and overall the pizza was delicious. The appetizers had been a bit too much so I wasn’t able to finish it. I took it to go and it made great lunch the next day.
One thing I didn’t take a picture of and in retrospect I wish I had was the 0.5L glass of Fanta that I ordered with the meal.
The service was prompt, though there was a mix-up with the pizza and it took a while longer to receive it than expected. The food a tasted quite plain, pretty much what you would expect from a chain restaurant. I don’t think I’ll head over there again simply because there are so many other great restaurants in the area.
