Here is [...]]]> I wouldn’t say I’m an avid fan of TV. I have certain shows that I follow and apart from a big event, television is just noise I have running in the background. I am looking forward to the fall because shows return then and I can’t wait to see what new storylines are developed.

Here is a list of shows I follow and, if available on TV.com, when they are slated to return:

• Dexter – TBA
• Eureka – July 29th (that’s next week!)
• Heroes – September 22
• House – TBA
• How I Met Your Mother – September 22
• NCIS – September 23
• Robin Hood – TBA
• Scrubs – TBA
• The Big Bang Theory – TBA
• The Office – TBA

Unfortunately most of the comedies I follow are still TBA, however the action/drama series are coming back so that should fill my need for characters I know, drama and action. I wonder who’s going to be Gibbs’ new team? And what is Dexter up to nowadays?

They are taking advantage of the name of the well-known series but [...]]]> US-based network The CW is reviving the 1990′s hit series Beverly Hills 90210. I had the chance to watch a preview of this new show on TV.com and it doesn’t look very promising to me. Take a look at the preview below:

They are taking advantage of the name of the well-known series but the show has no promise at all. Let’s take a look at some of the characters as introduced by the video above.

Annie Mills (The New Girl in town – Brenda Walsh) A Kansas City girl whose dad becomes principal of West Beverly High and thus must start a whole new life as “the little fish in a pond of what seems to be sharks.” I definitely will not be going into the education field if 1600 mile transfers happen just like that. Besides, don’t different states have different standards? Accepting that this may some how be possible we get to…

…her adopted brother Dixon Mills (The Token Black Guy – Brandon Walsh) In what is probably an effort to show more diversity the producers decided to infuse an African American flavour to the show. The kid was adopted by Harry Mills from a bad situation he found himself in. ‘Cause you know, those black kids are always getting in trouble and need to be rescued by the white man. Moving on…

Ethan Ward (The Nathan Scott – Steve Sanders) Fun-loving, down to earth, star athlete of the school. The producers are really breaking all the rules here by not making this jock a jerk. Everyone knows that star athletes are jerks, it’s their schtick. They’re good athletes but bad people. It just works, Rob Thomas, Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah, it just works.

Naomi Bennet (The Brooke Davis – Kelly Taylor) The rich, stuck up girl. Obviously Ethan’s ex-girlfriend who is more than meets the eye. Really? That’s the best you could do? You mean to tell me hot people can be good people? You’re kidding.

I’ll watch this show for a bit. I’ll give a chance, but I don’t see it going anywhere. To me it’s just going to be another show in the same boat as The OC, The Hills and the others. It’s a shame really, Beverly Hills 90210 was the more serious Saved by the Bell of my generation. You could laugh at the latter and deal with some real issues in the former. We’ll see what comes out of this one.

In case you haven’t heard of MacGyver (and I’m still surprised that some people haven’t. Am I getting that old?), he was a “get out of any problem with my Swiss Army knife and my brain” type of guy. “The clever solutions MacGyver implemented to seemingly intractable problems—often in life-or-death situations requiring him to improvise complex devices in a matter of minutes—were a major attraction of the show, which was praised for generating interest in the applied sciences, and particularly engineering.”

Wikipedia has a list of problems solved by MacGyver which is definitely an interesting read. The problems range from blocking a sulfuric acid leak with chocolate to bypassing a biometric device with wax and pool chalk. The MythBusters have done an episode on MacGyver myths you can read about on their wiki.

Of course there have been spoofs done of MacGyver’s ability to get out of all types of situations, MacGruber being the one I find most funny:

That’s one of my favourite lines from Barney Stinson, one of the main characters of CBS’s comedy How I Met Your Mother. He is by far my favourite character on the show. He is always well dressed (except for funerals) and is in his own word “awesome.”

Among the [...]]]> The writer’s strike has been over for about a month now so obviously the big question on everyone’s mind is “When are the shows coming back with new episodes?” The answer: within the next month and a half. TV.com has a list of shows returning with the date and time of the said return.

Among the ones I’m excited about:

• The Big Bang Theory resumes Monday, March 17 at 8 PM on CBS
• House resumes Monday April 28, 9 PM on FOX
• Scrubs resumes Thursday April 10, 9:30 PM on NBC
• Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil premieres Wednesday, March 12, 10:30 PM on Comedy Central
• South Park returns Wednesday March 12, 10 PM on Comedy Central

The article also mentions Dexter coming to CBS starting February 17 (so 2 weeks ago) with season 1. I haven’t actually looked into when Season 3 begins yet, but seeing as how S2 ended in December, I’m going to ballpark it somewhere between June and July.

So there you have it, your summer won’t be empty. Check out the full article for the whole list. No word on Disney Channel shows
