I wrote last week about Rick Mercer’s visit to McMaster where he was playing squash with the girls’ varsity team. Well here’s the clip from the Mercer report filmed at McMaster:

Last Tuesday, Barack Obama won the 2008 US Presidential election. The day after, South Park had an episode dedicated to the results of the election. IGN TV has an interview with Matt Stone and Trey Parker discussing how they pulled it off.

As always, South Park is on the ball: this week’s episode (entitled “About Last Night…”) is about Barrack Obama winning the 2008 US Presidential Election. Just a tease: Obama, Michelle, McCain and Palin were working together all along!

While the episode was a bit weak (likely due to the very tight schedule they were on) it is still enjoyable. I won’t spoil the story for you but I recommend you watch it.

On another note, I would like to extend my congratulations to president Obama. Don’t F it up like the last guy!

And on a third note, it’s interesting that the third suggested search phrase by Google is “barack obama birth certificate.” Way to go smear campaigns!

If you can’t beat them, throw mud at them!

I wouldn’t say I’m an avid fan of TV. I have certain shows that I follow and apart from a big event, television is just noise I have running in the background. I am looking forward to the fall because shows return then and I can’t wait to see what new storylines are developed.

Here is a list of shows I follow and, if available on TV.com, when they are slated to return:

Unfortunately most of the comedies I follow are still TBA, however the action/drama series are coming back so that should fill my need for characters I know, drama and action. I wonder who’s going to be Gibbs’ new team? And what is Dexter up to nowadays?

XKCD gives you a look at an unaired, never before seen scene from the 1980′s hit show, MacGyver:

MacGyver gets lazy

In case you haven’t heard of MacGyver (and I’m still surprised that some people haven’t. Am I getting that old?), he was a “get out of any problem with my Swiss Army knife and my brain” type of guy. “The clever solutions MacGyver implemented to seemingly intractable problems—often in life-or-death situations requiring him to improvise complex devices in a matter of minutes—were a major attraction of the show, which was praised for generating interest in the applied sciences, and particularly engineering.”

The mullet, a sign of greatness

Wikipedia has a list of problems solved by MacGyver which is definitely an interesting read. The problems range from blocking a sulfuric acid leak with chocolate to bypassing a biometric device with wax and pool chalk. The MythBusters have done an episode on MacGyver myths you can read about on their wiki.

Of course there have been spoofs done of MacGyver’s ability to get out of all types of situations, MacGruber being the one I find most funny:
